New York City’s Campaign Finance Board sent out millions of faulty voter guides preceding the June 24 Democratic primary.

The guides falsely included Mayor Eric Adams, who is forgoing the Democratic primary to run for reelection as an independent, despite remaining a registered Democrat. The guide was mailed to over 3.5 million New York voters starting on May 19, according to Politico. The city printed 2025 Primary Election Voter Guides in 14 different languages — each one incorrectly stating twice that Adams will run in next month’s Democratic primary, Politico reported.

“In the business of voter education, every error is serious, and we take Voter Guide errors very seriously,” Campaign Finance Board spokesperson Amy Lebowitz said in a statement regarding the error. “NYC Votes will work overtime until Election Day to get accurate information to voters across the five boroughs.”

The board now plans to mail corrected lists of mayoral primary candidates to all registered Democrats in New York, according to Politico.

Empire Report New York called the board’s error “bumbling,” in a Wednesday X post.

Adams’ decision to run as an independent in the upcoming campaign cycle came shortly after a federal judge dismissed an indictment against him on counts of bribery, conspiracy, and campaign finance violations.

Adams said in an April X post,  “I am running for mayor in the general election because our city needs independent leadership that understands working people.”

Mike Zumbluskas, former Republican candidate for New York’s 12th Congressional District, told the Daily Caller News Foundation that Adam’s decision to run as an independent was due to fear of embarrassment. If he had sought reelection as a Democratic candidate, Adams would have been running in a crowded primary against well-known competitors such as former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, far-left state Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani and City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams.

The New York Campaign Finance Board and Adams’ campaign did not immediately respond to the DCNF’s request for comment.
