The scramble to join the new Trump administration is on. Several of those who worked in the 45th administration are planning to return to the 47th, most in different roles.

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is said to be angling for defense but is facing questions about his record of achievements and support for President-elect Donald Trump.

Former White House domestic policy adviser Brooke Rollins is on a couple of lists, including for education secretary and chief of staff. But campaign officials won on that pick with co-campaign manager Susie Wiles getting it late Thursday, making her the first woman White House chief. And Trump’s trusted wordsmith and immigration czar Stephen Miller is eyeing a return to the White House as a top adviser with a larger portfolio.

— Trump biographer Craig Shirley got his wish with the victory of the former president. Now, he is set to dig into his research for Comeback. Trump’s return is the biggest in American political history, though how it happened hasn’t been told by those on the inside, and that’s what Shirley has been authorized to do. Publishers are expected to compete for the book. He recently told us that his will be a “corrective” version of the Trump books, most of which have been negative. He’s a bestselling biographer of former President Ronald Reagan. The Trump book business has been a good one, certainly better than those about President Joe Biden, considered such a bore that Simon & Schuster canceled its contract with an Axios writer earlier this year.

— He was largely hidden during the first Trump administration, but insiders said that Barron Trump, the son of the president-elect and Melania Trump, may have a role in the new White House communications operation. Some have dubbed him the “podcast consigliere” for convincing his father to appear on alternative media, such as Joe Rogan’s podcast, during the campaign.
