(The Center Square) — The Caddo Parish School Board voted at their meeting this week on their 2025 president, vice president and second vice president.

The only candidates were those already on the board as board members are voted in by the public every four years and those elected collectively choose their leaders.

District 2 Board Member Jasmine Green won the presidential position in a landslide on Tuesday against Dr. Bonita Douzart, whose only vote came from herself.

Current president and District 11 Board Member Jessica Yeates stepped down and ran for vice president this time around, winning against her only opponent Steve Umling. District 6 Board Member Mary Trammel ran unopposed as the second vice president, replacing District 9 Board Member Barry Rachal.

Yeates spoke about her time as president over the last year after the vote.

“It has been an incredible honor to serve in this role,” Yeates said. “This year has been one of the toughest the board has faced in recent memory. There have been many challenges, but also many opportunities for growth, learning, and collaboration. I’m incredibly grateful to each of you for your support, understanding, and at times forgiveness if things didn’t always go as planned.”

Yeates also commented on working with the future president.

“Lastly, Ms. Green, I look forward to working with you as the next president of the Caddo Parish School Board. Congratulations again and I am confident you will lead this board with grace and vision,” Yeates said.

Several board members expressed their appreciation for Yeates’ time serving as president followed by a standing ovation.

“I just want to thank you for your year of service. This was a very difficult year. Of all the years I’ve been on the board this might’ve been the most trying, and you rose to the occasion,” District 4 Board Member Don Little said. “I know it was very tough and took away time from your career and your family. Just know your efforts were appreciated.”

Finally, Green gave her remarks on the victory.

“Thank you guys so much for having confidence in me,” Green said. “I look forward to a great year. I look forward to us working together as we always do.”
