‘Cheers’ Actor George Wendt Dead At 76 ‘Cheers’ Actor George Wendt Dead At 76

“Cheers” star George Wendt died peacefully in his sleep Tuesday morning at the age of 76, according to TMZ.

The famous actor is best known for his long-running role in the NBC sitcom, appearing in all 275 episodes of “Cheers” in the role of Norm Peterson. He went on to secure six consecutive nominations for the Primetime Emmy Award in the category of outstanding supporting actor in a comedy show.  When the series came to an end, Wendt continued to pursue his passion for acting in his own sitcom “The George Wendt Show. ”

Sources from Wendt’s family confirmed his passing to TMZ but did not disclose any details surrounding his cause of death.

The star’s  family is remembering him as “a doting family man, a well-loved friend and confidant to all of those lucky enough to have known him.”

They told the outlet that he will always be missed.

Wendt’s long-spanning career in the entertainment industry include a number of credits, including both television and film.

His big screen credits included roles in “Airplane II: The Sequel,” “No Small Affair,” “The Little Rascals” and “Fletch.”  He also starred in “Spice World,” “Outside Providence,” “Alice in Wonderland,” “Sandy Wexler” and “Santa Buddies.”

Fans, friends and loved ones are mourning this sudden loss on social media as they pay tribute to the actor and share their final respects.
