The harrowing moment seemed to be completely unprovoked. The performer swam past several other fish without incident and waved to the audience that was watching the show before the attack unfolded.
The video showed the fish clamping its jaws around her head and, in that moment, the performer’s entire face was inside of it’s mouth. Her goggles are missing following the attack.
The young entertainer was allegedly offered around $97 in “moral damages” after the attack and banned from speaking about it by her employers who wanted to cover up the severity of the incident, according to the Daily Mail.
Masha alleged that she was forced back into the aquarium despite being in extreme pain from a neck wound caused by the attack, the New York Post reported. (RELATED: ‘I’m Going To Die Here’: British Man Says He Was Attacked By Hippo While Canoeing In Zambia)
The freshwater aquarium she was performing in contains native species from the Mekong and Yangtze Rivers, as well as other rare amphibians, according to the Daily Mail. It is not yet clear what type of fish attacked the ‘mermaid’ in the video.
