English Premier League soccer star Marc Guehi broke his silence after the league flagged him for writing “I Love Jesus” on the LGBTQ rainbow-colored captain’s armband he was forced to wear during Saturday’s match against Newcastle United.
“I think the message was pretty clear, to be honest,” Guehi said to Sky Sports News. “It was a message of love and truth as well, and a message of inclusivity, so I think it speaks for itself.”

Immediately after coming onto the pitch, the Football Association (FA) reprimanded Guehi for creating an alternative version of the official LGBTQ armband and said that he broke the rules on religious displays. The armband is part of the “Rainbow Laces Campaign,” a collaboration between the Premier League and Stonewall, a gay rights charity, to promote further LGBT inclusion. It ends Thursday.
When the smoke cleared, the FA decided not to punish Guehi, instead just issuing him a warning.
And Guehi, well, he’s completely unapologetic about the whole thing.
