What a dumb investigation… Dave Portnoy concurs.
Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports, clapped back against accusations that “hateful comments” were reportedly spewed at Chicago Sky star Angel Reese in her team’s game taking on the Indiana Fever.
An investigation was launched by the WNBA. Per the AP, the comments were allegedly thrown out against Reese in Saturday’s game. The WNBA stated that they “strongly [condemn] racism, hate and discrimination in all forms.” (RELATED: Caitlin Clark Slides Into Villain Mode Against Angel Reese In Intense Exchange)
No particulars were pointed out, which resulted in Portnoy doubting the claims and speculating that people online were fueling the rumors. Portnoy was in attendance at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse and was courtside wearing a Caitlin Clark jersey.
In a video that was published to Twitter, Portnoy stated the only “hate” that he witnessed was from Reese on Clark following the Indiana superstar knocking Reese with a physical foul during third quarter action. Reese made it clear to Clark that she wasn’t a fan. Referees issued Clark a flagrant foul.
Clark stated in an interview that she was not “trying to do anything malicious.”
“Listen, I was at the game. If there was somebody being racist or saying sh*t, obviously boot ’em. Never let them back,” said Portnoy. “I would be stunned beyond belief if that was the case. … The crowd at the Fever game? Little girls, families, ladies, nice crowd. Was it loud, were we mad when Angel Reese attacked Cailtin Clark for no reason? Yeah. Did we boo her? Yeah. Is it sports? Yeah.”

The @WNBA can’t get out of their own way. To issue a statement in response to trolls is a joke. It makes @IndianaFever fans look bad for no reason. It’s like they won’t be happy till they kill the golden goose.
