The New York Times, The Athletic, it’s all a joke.
With the NYT’s Athletic brand in particular, they dropped a rankings piece Tuesday of the best to worst home ballpark atmospheres for the franchises that are still in the MLB postseason. Coming in dead last out of the eight organizations were the Detroit Tigers and their Comerica Park.
And nobody took it more personal than the 3-1-3. (RELATED: New York Mets Push Through Dysfunctional Ways To Punch Tickets To NLCS)
In response, and doing so in their first playoff game in The D in 10 years, Tigers fans flocked Wednesday to Comerica with a sellout crowd of 44,885, the largest ever in the postseason history of the ballpark. And to add more fuel to the fire, Detroit got the 3-0 victory over the Cleveland Guardians for a 2-1 series lead in the American League Divisional Series (ALDS).
Oh, but that wasn’t all, the Tigers also trolled The Athletic in the middle of the game, actually putting up a screenshot of their rankings on their video board. They also took a shot at it in a tweet that you’ll see here in a moment, making this situation even better by declaring themselves as the “best playoff atmosphere in baseball.”
Talk about a complete OWN!
