If your new year’s resolution was to work out more often, Dick Van Dyke’s workout routine may very well be the inspiration you need.
The 99-year-old actor spoke about his secret to staying fit on Wednesday’s episode of the “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” podcast. Van Dyke explained his dedication to fitness and told hosts Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen he has no plans to slow down.
“When you think … I go back to 1925, I’m almost 100. This is insane,” Van Dyke said. “Well, somebody said, ‘to what do you attribute your age and physical condition?’ and I said, ‘I’ve always exercised.’”
He wasn’t joking. “Three days a week, we go to the gym, still,” he said. “Three days a week.”
Danson confirmed that he has also witnessed Van Dyke’s fitness routine at a gym near his home in Malibu.
“If I got there early enough I would see you literally work out on some weight machine,” Danson said on the podcast.
“And then, almost like you were doing circuit training, you would not walk to the next machine — you danced,” he said.
Danson chuckled as he said, “You literally danced to the next machine and I watched that for a couple of weeks.”
Van Dyke’s wife, Arlene Silver, chimed in to say, “he still does that!” (RELATED: Dick Van Dyke Digs His Heels In The Ground, Refuses To Leave Fire Ravaged Area)
