Singer Marilyn Manson will reportedly not be charged by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office in his sexual battery case.
TMZ reported Friday that District Attorney Nathan Hochman completed a comprehensive four-year review by the Sex Crimes Division and sheriff’s detectives and determined not to pursue the charges. A source close to Manson told the outlet that it was determined that the sworn testimony of witnesses and claimants contradicted claims they had made.
Hochman announced in a press release the department has determined the statute of limitations has lapsed in the domestic violence case and the office can’t prove the sexual assault allegations beyond a reasonable doubt, according to TMZ.
Included in the review was testimony made by Ashley Morgan Smithline, who swore under oath that she made false claims against the singer after having been manipulated by Manson’s former girlfriend, Evan Rachel Wood. The sworn testimony of Ashley Walters contradicted her claims as well as allegations made by Esme Bianco, authorities said, according to TMZ.
Hochman thanked the women who came forward with their reports for their cooperation and patience as this high-profile case was being reviewed. He noted that their stories would help bring more awareness to the challenges faced by sexual assault and domestic violence survivors.
Special Victims Unit detectives executed a search warrant at Manson’s L.A. residence in 2021. The police were investigating allegations that Manson had locked women up in soundproof rooms at his home as a form of punishment.
Manson maintained his innocence throughout the investigation and vehemently denied all allegations made against him by each of the women.
The famous singer pushed back by filing a lawsuit against Wood, accusing his former lover of fabricating a letter from the FBI, pretending to be an agent and suggesting he was under investigation. (RELATED: Marilyn Manson Accuses Ex-Fiance Of Forging Letters To FBI: REPORT)
Manson has yet to issue publicly comment about the case being closed.
