Federal authorities are investigating a deadly explosion at a Southern California fertility clinic as an act of terrorism, following revelations that the suspect left behind disturbing online writings and attempted to record or livestream the attack, according to law enforcement sources.
The explosion, which rocked the normally quiet city of Palm Springs on Saturday, tore through the fertility clinic and killed the person believed responsible. Nineteen others were injured in the blast, though none of the victims have been publicly identified. At a press conference Saturday evening, Akil Davis, head of the FBI’s Los Angeles field office, said the agency is treating the incident as terrorism.
“Make no mistake: This is an intentional act of terrorism,” Davis said.
The @FBI has now confirmed that this was an intentional act of terror. No word on the background of the killer but make no mistake, they tried to kill innocent babies who were waiting to be implanted. One piece of good news: Embryos at the clinic survived the bombing. A law enforcement official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said investigators believe the attacker acted alone and was killed in a vehicle explosion connected to the incident. Authorities have not released the suspect’s name but said no additional suspects are being sought.
The attacker reportedly posted rambling and ominous messages online in the days leading up to the explosion. These writings expressed anti-natalist views, including a belief that the world should not be populated—offering insight into what may have allegedly motivated the suspect to target a fertility clinic.
Law enforcement officials said the suspect attempted to either record video or livestream the attack.
The FBI is still reconstructing the timeline of events and combing through the suspect’s digital footprint to better understand the motive.
This is a developing story. Updates will follow as more information becomes available.
