In 2011, Eric Adams made parenting look easy.
The now-disgraced New York City mayor was charged with bribery, conspiracy and wire fraud Thursday, allegedly taking $10 million in illegal campaign contributions and bribes from foreign nationals in exchange for favors. But it is my hope we do not forget Adams’s astute contribution to the art of parenting when he showed parents across America how easy it is to find “contraband” in your kids’ bedrooms. Make sure to check jewelry boxes for hidden guns, then-New York state Sen. Adams says. Check behind the bookshelves, too, you never know if there is a bag of cocaine tucked behind your son’s copy of War and Peace.
The most bizarre part of the video is when Adams refers to a backpack as a “popular knapsack with many different locations.” Yes, some of us refer to that as a backpack, Mr. Mayor. Backpack.
Amid the bombshell charges, let’s also not forget when Adams was a legend at the 2022 Met Gala, where he rocked a tuxedo that featured the message “END GUN VIOLENCE” on it. Truly inspiring.
