The Left is still reeling over comedian Tony Hinchcliffe’s stand-up set at the Trump rally Sunday, where he made a somewhat distasteful joke about Puerto Rico. The horror!
The same people feigning outrage here will be the first to tell you they’re not political. You certainly know the type:
They tell you they’re not a Republican or a Democrat, and have plenty of friends on both sides of the aisle; all they care about is America. That’s why they’re sick of those doggone MAGA extremists ruining bipartisanship for all the Good People. They wish nothing more than to go back to an age of polished civility, where neither party could ever dream of being as offensively garish as Orange Hitler. You know, the good ol’ Reagan days. Well, I can tell you that Ronald Reagan would have likely gotten a kick out of Hinchcliffe himself. Just look at him laughing it up at notorious insult comic Don Rickles, who was invited to roast the audience at Reagan’s second inauguration.
Rickles takes the stage after an introduction by a small child. “First black kid I ever saw that’ll definitely never play basketball,” he begins. He goes on to roast all of the VIP’s in the room: Vice President Bush, Secretary Shultz, Billy Graham and of course, the Gipper himself.
“It’s great, though. I make fun of the President, why not? I make fun of everyone. That’s America,” he says to wrap up the set.
That’s exactly right — and it’s certainly something a large chunk of the country has forgotten in the four decades since. We need to make America laugh again.
