They won a ring! They won me money in the process! And now they’re at the White House!

The Florida Gators men’s basketball team, who won the 2024-25 NCAA March Madness national championship, paid a visit Wednesday to President Donald Trump at the White House in celebration of their title. Trump hailed the Gators, saying that “lesser teams would have crumbled” in their championship win.

“It was looking bad,” said Trump, pointing out Houston leading by 12 points at one point in the game in San Antonio that ultimately saw Florida get the 65-63 victory back in April. “Did you think you were going to win?”

The 36-4 Gators came from behind on four separate occasions during their six-game winning streak to win Madness. In the national title game, Florida only led for 64 seconds, including the final 46 to get them the nail-biting victory. Trump brought up how guard Alijah Martin hit both of his free throws to place Florida in the lead with 46.5 ticks left on the clock, and then questioned Martin about how nervous he was in that moment.

It’s the third national championship all-time for the Gators in men’s basketball, with Trump highlighting that Florida is the only college to have three national titles in both basketball and football.

With Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Attorney General Pam Bondi, Sen. Rick Scott, Sen. Ashley Moody, multiple House members and Gators legend Tim Tebow all in attendance, the Florida hoops team gifted Trump a No. 47 jersey with his last name on the back and an autographed basketball.

Speaking of White House visits, I hope Trump is ready to host the Florida Panthers again, because that’s coming.
