Former FTX executive Ryan Salame took to LinkedIn with a celebratory post Wednesday announcing his upcoming status as a prisoner at a federal correctional institution in Cumberland, Maryland.
Salame was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in prison on fraud and campaign finance charges in connection with the breakdown of FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried’s crypto exchange in 2022. The 31-year-old former member of Bankman-Fried’s inner circle updated his LinkedIn profile with a tongue-in-cheek jab about his “new position” for the coming years.
“I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Inmate at FCI Cumberland,” Salame’s LinkedIn post reads, using the professional website’s new position template.

Comments commending Salame for his “new position” flooded in as some users appeared to look over the pending prisoner’s joke, while others were likely joining in on the joke.
“Congratulations! Wishing you luck in your new role,” one LinkedIn user wrote.
“Congrats Ryan,” multiple comments read.
“Congrats Ryan! I wish you many more years of celebration! Well deserved,” another LinkedIn user with a CEO title responded.
Salame will report to FCI Cumberland on Friday.
Salame told Tucker Carlson in an interview released Wednesday that he was the only FTX executive who is not a partisan Democrat. He blasted the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) for charging him with “manufactured” crimes to put pressure on him. Despite pleading guilty to both charges, Salame told Carlson “a lot of misconception” surrounds the entire FTX case.
Bankman-Fried was found guilty on seven counts of fraud and conspiracy-related charges in Nov. 2023. The disgraced FTX founder, who previously donated tens of millions of dollars to Democratic Party causes, received a prison sentence of 25 years. In September, Sean “Diddy” Combs was placed in the same Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, according to People.
