Gamers are fuming after a scene from the new “Dragon Age” title surfaced Wednesday featuring a lecture on how to apologize for “misgendering.”
The two-minute scene sparked outrage on Twitter after a character suggests doing push-ups — or “pulling a Barve” — as the ideal form of apology after she “misgenders” another character.
The WORST SCENE in DRAGON AGE VEILGUARD just dropped.
You can never apologize enough, and you have to do it in JUST the right way, Dragon Age lectures.

“Some people mess up and get all dramatic. They make it about them,” the character said in part as she touted the virtues of her apology. “‘Oh, you know I didn’t mean it, right? I’d never do that on purpose.’ They feel so bad about it that it’s on everyone else to smooth it over and make them feel better. Pulling a Barve puts it on the person who screwed up. They made the mess. They fix it. Done.”
Gamers slammed the scene as “cringe” ahead of the game’s Thursday release.
“Every interaction between the companions feels like HR is in the room,” the YouTube channel Skill Up said in a video review.
A self-proclaimed “queer consultant” claimed to have “worked on” the game in a social media post. “I just got approval to say this. I worked on Dragon Age: The Veilguard!!!” the post read.
I just got approval to say this.
I worked on Dragon Age: The Veilguard!!!
I’ve been sat on this secret for nearly four years, and I am so excited to FINALLY be able to tell everyone I’m in the credits!
Thank you so much to @PatrickWeekes for reaching out to get me involved.

“Great. I can’t wait to not play it. Hope it destroys the studio,” one X user replied to the “queer consultant.”
“Thanks for destroying a series I loved,” another user wrote in reply.
The game offers players the option to fashion their characters with mastectomy scars along with “sliders” to adjust the size of various body parts, according to a review published by Sports Illustrated.
Bioware developed “Dragon Age: The Veilguard” and Electronic Arts (EA) was the game’s publisher. It is the eighth installment in the fantasy role-playing series and the fourth main line game.
