Gas prices across the nation dropped again on Friday. The national average price for regular gas fell to $3.122 per gallon on Nov. 1, a nearly one-cent drop from Thursday’s price of $3.131.
Friday’s price was also less expensive than a week ago, when regular gas cost $3.144 per gallon. Gas is also cheaper than a month ago, when a gallon of regular gas cost $3.204. The current price is the least expensive gas has been in the country since January 2024, when the average price was $3.075.

With President Joe Biden deciding not to seek reelection, Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, has to indicate how she will address the country’s gas prices and energy costs and how both affect the economy and people’s finances. Gas prices in Delaware continued a downward trend on Friday, with the new average cost for a gallon of regular gas at $2.971. This was an over 4-cent drop from Wednesday, when the price was $3.013. After a sharp increase earlier this month, gas prices in the First State have significantly fallen. A week ago, the average cost for a gallon of regular gas was $3.044, and a month ago, it was $3.187.
Maryland
The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Maryland dropped to $3.069 on Friday, a more than 3-cent drop since Wednesday. Gas prices in the state have been falling the last few weeks after surging at the beginning of October. A week ago, a gallon of regular gas cost $3.131, and a month ago, it was $3.244.
Virginia
On Friday, the average price for a gallon of regular gas in Virginia fell to $3.024. This was a slight drop from Thursday’s price of $3.033. Like other states in the Delmarva region, Virginia’s gas prices have been trending downward over the last few weeks. A week ago, a gallon of regular gas cost $3.055. However, gas prices were slightly higher in the state on Friday than a month ago, when a gallon of regular gas was under $3 per gallon, coming in at $2.997.
Washington, D.C.
The average gas price in Washington, D.C., continues to be the most expensive among all the areas in the Delmarva region, coming in at $3.269 per gallon on Friday, a slight increase from Thursday’s price of $3.267. Gas prices in the state have fluctuated between $3.25 and $3.32 for the last month. For example, a week ago, a gallon of regular gas in the nation’s capital was more expensive, costing $3.283. The same holds for prices from a month ago when a gallon of regular gas cost $3.305.

Texas
Texas remained the state with the cheapest gas prices in the country on Friday at $2.667, a slight drop from the $2.68 per gallon cost on Thursday. This was also a decrease from last week’s price in the Lone Star State, when a gallon of regular gas cost $2.695, and a month ago, when a gallon of regular gas in Texas cost $2.736.
Hawaii
Gas prices in Hawaii on Friday remained the most expensive in the nation after toppling California for that distinction earlier in the week. It now costs $4.587 per gallon for regular gas in the Aloha State, a drop from Thursday’s price of $4.594. Prices are ever-so-slightly more expensive than a week ago when the average cost for a gallon of regular was $4.589. Friday’s pricing was less expensive than a month ago in Hawaii when residents paid $4.605 per gallon for regular gas.
