Gas prices: Decrease at the pumps to begin the work week Gas prices: Decrease at the pumps to begin the work week

This was a slight decrease from Monday’s price of $3.216 per gallon. Gas prices are slightly lower than last week when it cost $3.21 for a gallon of regular gas.

Gas prices rose slightly last week after weeks of decreases at the pumps. However, gas prices have decreased somewhat since the weekend as the cost of gas continues to fluctuate. Mississippi, a state that overwhelmingly voted for former President Donald Trump in 2016 and 2020, has the lowest price for a gallon of regular gas in the country at $2.682 per gallon. California, a state that voted for the Democratic candidate in the last two elections, has the most expensive gas in the country, coming in with the hefty price of $4.683 per gallon.

The price of gas remains a vital topic heading into the 2024 presidential election. With President Joe Biden deciding not to seek reelection, Vice President Kamala Harris, now the Democratic presidential nominee, has to indicate how she will address the country’s gas prices and energy costs and how both affect the economy and people’s finances. Overall, gas prices remain higher than when Trump was in office.
