(The Center Square) – The average cost in Georgia for a regular unleaded gallon of gasoline is $2.93, unchanged from last week, according to AAA.

Last month, a gallon of gas was $2.71. Gov. Brian Kemp implemented a moratorium on fuel taxes that ended on Oct. 16.

Gas prices are also up from a year ago when Georgians received another break at the pump due to inflation. The governor’s 2023 moratorium ran from Sept. 13 to Nov. 29.

The least expensive gas is found in the Catoosa-Dade-Walker area, where prices are $2.77. The region borders Tennessee, where gas prices are traditionally lower. A gallon of gas costs $2.69 a gallon in the Volunteer State, according to AAA.

The most expensive gas is in the Hinesville-Fort Stewart area at $3 a gallon.

Gas prices are holding steady, at least for now, according to AAA.

“But we might see Hurricane Sara start to stir things up, and that could nudge gas prices a notch higher,” said AAA spokeswoman Montrae Waiters. “Some early predictions show she could be taking a trip toward Florida around mid-week, so let’s keep our eyes peeled for what that means for us.”

Millions are expected to take a road trip during the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday weekend. More than 71 million Americans are expected to travel by car. The number will break last year’s record of 70.4 million, according to AAA.

Georgia’s gas prices remain lower than the national average of $3.07 per gallon, which is down a penny from last week.
