Georgia gas prices swing low amid uncertain economy | Georgia

(The Center Square) – Georgia gas prices took a 6-cent drop this week, bringing the average cost of a regular unleaded gallon of gas to $2.92, according to AAA.

The uncertain economy is causing 401(k) accounts to drop, but it has the opposite effect on gas prices.

“Lately, oil prices have taken a dive, presumably swayed by uncertainty about the economy and worries about a recession sneaking up on us,” said Montrae Waiters, AAA-The Auto Club Group spokeswoman. “Because of this, demand is down, and we have not seen crude oil prices this low in several years. If we continue this trend, we could keep seeing pump prices drop as we roll into summer.”

Georgia gas prices are 2 cents higher than last month but 51 cents less than last year, according to AAA.

The least expensive gas is in the Catoosa, Dade and Walker region in northwest Georgia, where a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.76. The area borders on Tennessee, where gas is only $2.70. Other surrounding states also have less expensive gas than Georgia, with the exception of North Carolina at $2.84 and Florida at $2.99.

Georgia’s most expensive gallon of fuel is in the Athens-Atlanta area at $2.97.

The national average is $3.15 a gallon. California takes the top spot among the states with a price of $4.84. Mississippi has the least expensive at $2.68.
