Alijah Arenas, a five-star men’s basketball prospect and commit to the USC Trojans, is currently in an induced coma following a car crash Thursday morning in the Los Angeles area, sources told ESPN.

Authorities got a call at 4:55 a.m. following a Tesla Cybertruck crashing into both a fire hydrant and tree, with a fire also being in the mix, a public information officer from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) told ESPN. The person in the crash wasn’t identified by the LAFD, but they said an 18-year-old was taken out of the vehicle and sent to a local hospital where he was in serious condition.

The four-letter network‘s sources gave confirmation that it was Arenas who was in the crash and said to ESPN that the first tests revealed no bones were broken.

The son of NBA legend Gilbert Arenas, Alijah is ranked as the No. 13 overall recruit in the 2025 class after he was reclassified in December and went on to commit to USC in January.
