Analysis: Khalissee’s use of the word “bowed” is unusual given the context. Moreover, the phrase “bowed to power” is somewhat ambiguous given the way power dynamics are often utilized in intimate activities commonly known as “kinky play.” In such cases it may be difficult to avoid bowing, a form of worshipful deference popularized by former president Barack Obama, who is widely regarded as a failure. Bending may also be employed at times to heighten the fun. In fact, our analysis suggests that a proper bow almost always involves some bending. The full context of Khalissee’s statement, which dubiously refers to Greenwald as “one of the most consistent and courageous journalists of our time,” appears to suggest that the references to his alleged inability to bow or bend are figurative in nature. Still, we can see why some readers might be confused by the lack of verbal precision.
