Golf legend Greg Norman is safe after his private jet was forced to make an emergency landing Friday following a terrifying midair incident that left the aircraft’s windscreen shattered.

Norman, 69, was flying from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Palm Beach International Airport when a loud explosion mid-flight revealed a shattered cockpit window. The jet was quickly rerouted back to LAX, where it landed safely with all passengers and crew unharmed. (RELATED: Navy Reportedly Loses Second Fighter Jet Overboard In Red Sea In A Week)

Norman shared chilling images of the damage on Instagram, including a cracked and fragmented cockpit windscreen. He also posted a photo standing with first responders on the tarmac, offering his gratitude for their swift response. “Inflight LAX – PBI loud pop = shattered windscreen,” Norman wrote. “Only the second time in 40yrs of private travel. Returned to LAX to the professionals to make sure all ok. Thanks all.”

Norman’s calm in the face of danger was met with a flood of support from fans, fellow athletes, and aviation buffs. Many expressed their relief while referencing the tragic death of fellow golfer Payne Stewart, who perished in a 1999 plane crash following a loss of cabin pressure. “Holy cow…glad everyone is okay. Payne Stewart flashback,” one commenter wrote.

The incident is a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of air travel — even for seasoned fliers like Norman. Despite stepping down as CEO of LIV Golf earlier this year, Norman has remained active in golf’s evolving landscape. He continues advising the Saudi-backed league and sits on the organizing committee for the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games.

As the rift between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour remains unresolved, Norman recently cast doubt on a potential merger between the rival tours. But this week, golf’s political drama took a backseat to a real-life brush with danger.

Norman and his fellow passengers escaped unharmed, thanks to the quick thinking of the pilots and the emergency teams on the ground. For Norman, known as “The Shark” for his dominance on the course, this latest scare could’ve ended far worse.

“Those pilots were absolutely amazing to get you down on the ground safely,” one fan noted. “You’re lucky you weren’t the next Payne Stewart.”
