You deserve better, Maine. Goodness gracious.
Maine Gov. Janet Mills is making it seem like the anger involving her state allowing transgender athletes to compete in female sports is no big deal. Speaking Monday, Mills also claims that she is “appalled” at President Donald Trump and his administration regarding their lawsuits against Maine in the middle of a federal funding battle.
Making an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Mills spoke about battling multiple departments under the Trump admin, which began when Maine outright refused to be in compliance with Trump’s “No Men in Women’s Sports” executive order. The E.O. bans transgender (biological male) athletes from being able to compete in female sports. “The chief executive is required by the Constitution to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, not to make the laws, not to invent the laws or reinterpret the laws by tweet or Instagram post or press release or executive order. He’s not allowed to do that,” said Mills.
“So, when he reinterpreted Title IX … I support Title IX. I have spent the better part of my career protecting the rights of women and girls in healthcare, in employment, housing credit and the like and I’m appalled. I was appalled at his interpretation that he can just reinvent the law.”
