Federal prosecutors are reportedly investigating allegations that Miami Heat shooting guard Terry Rozier was manipulating his play as part of an illegal gambling scheme.
According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, people familiar with the matter said the probe is a part of a bigger one into allegations of match fixing in professional athletics. The same investigation has already seen former Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter plead guilty, resulting in him being banned for life from the NBA.
Rozier, 30, has not been hit with any charges and it’s currently unknown if investigators have found that he assisted sports bettors with manipulated performances. (RELATED: Pistons’ Isaiah Stewart Proves He Can Be A Bit Nutty, And I’m Not Gonna Lie, I Kinda Like It)
The Miami Heat hasn’t been making any comments on the matter and pointed the Daily Mail towards a statement from the league.
“In March 2023, the NBA was alerted to unusual betting activity related to Terry Rozier’s performance in a game between Charlotte and New Orleans,” said NBA spokesman Mike Bass. ‘The league conducted an investigation and did not find a violation of NBA rules. We are now aware of an investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York related to this matter and have been cooperating with that investigation.”
