‘I Lay In Bed Screaming’: Christina Applegate Describes Excruciating Pain As Condition Worsens

Christina Applegate updated fans on her deteriorating health after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis on the Nov. 5 episode of the “MeSsy” podcast.

Applegate got candid with co-host Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who also struggles with the disease, and admitted her condition is worsening.

“I lay in bed screaming — like, the sharp pains, the ache, that squeezing,” the famous actress said. She revealed that her symptoms have progressed. “I can’t even pick up my phone sometimes because now it’s traveled into my hands, so I’ll, like, try to go get my phone or get my remote to turn on the TV or sometimes, I can’t even hold them,” Applegate said on the podcast.

The “Married … with Children” alum went on to say ,”I can’t open bottles now,” as she expressed her pain and frustration on the podcast.

The ladies spoke with Rory Kandel, the owner of Rory’s Bakehouse, who shared her own experiences with the disease.

“It feels like I have knives in my stomach,” Kandel said.

“Like, I’ll be laying in bed, and I wake up, and I physically can’t turn from side to side.”

Applegate expressed her understanding of that level of pain by weighing in to say, “It’s the worst.”

This prompted Kandel to ask her, “Do you feel like that?”

“Every single day of my life,” Applegate replied.

Kandel and Applegate addressed the invisibility of the disease by noting that they still maintain the same aesthetic and “look fine,” in spite of the physical ailments they are forced to ensure.

“Because it’s the beauty of the invisible disease,” Applegate stated.

She went on to explain that sometimes her pain levels are so intense that she physically can’t function.

“I just lay in bed all the time. I mean, I worked for almost 50 years, so I’m like, I’m kind of okay with it,” Applegate said.

The actress compared the challenge of getting out of bed each morning to the “floor is lava.”

“I put my feet on the ground and they’re hurting, like, extraordinarily bad to the touch,” she said. (RELATED: ‘Poop Went Into My Mouth’: Christina Applegate Says She Contracted Horrible Virus, Blames Salad)

“I was like, yep. Gonna get back in my bed and pee in my diaper because I don’t feel like walking all the way to the damn bathroom,” Applegate said, as she swiftly clarified, “I actually don’t lay here and pee in my bed diaper. That’s just a joke.”

“But it’s like it’s so freaking painful and so hard and so awkward.”
