Biden administration announces Rivian loan
The Biden administration announced Tuesday that the U.S. Department of Energy will make a $6.6 billion loan to Rivian Automotive to build a factory in Georgia. In March, the company said it was pausing construction of the plant for financial reasons. Rivian’s R1 vehicles, which are manufactured in Normal, cost $70,000 and up. The company plans to produce a smaller SUV in Georgia with a lower price tag.
Ballpark decorations stolen
A Joliet man was arrested after he allegedly stole $45,000 worth of Christmas decorations from the ballpark that is home to the Joliet Slammers. Joliet police allege Victor Sessoms stole three 12-foot reindeer decorations from the loading dock of Duly Health and Care Field earlier this month. Investigators determined Sessoms scrapped the aluminum decorations for money. In the days after the theft, the team described the suspect as a “Grinch” and said the decorations were going to be used for their Glow Holiday Festival.
Holiday train scheduled
The iconic Canadian Pacific Holiday Train will be making several stops in Illinois as part of its tour across the country. This year, the train began its U.S. tour Nov. 22 in Maine before traveling to more than a dozen states. The train will make a stop in Pingree Grove on Wednesday, Nov. 27, at 9 a.m., then move onto Byron for a noon stop. The final Illinois stop will be in Gurnee on Dec. 7 at 5:15 p.m.
