CCL holder shoots alleged armed robber
A man is dead after he was shot while allegedly attempting to rob another man at gunpoint in Chicago last night. Officers said the robbery victim was retrieving items from his car when an armed man approached. Officers said the suspect then allegedly demanded the victim’s personal belongings. But the victim, a Concealed Carry License holder, pulled out a gun and opened fire on the suspect. Officers said the suspect suffered several gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital, but was later pronounced dead.
ComEd announces relief fund
ComEd was joined by local elected and community officials Thursday to announce the launch of a one-time, $10 million Customer Relief Fund. The utility is working with Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago and The Salvation Army to administer the fund to qualified customers. ComEd customers can apply for assistance from the fund beginning July 7. Officials said the fund will provide timely relief to low-income ComEd residential customers and nonprofit organizations amid rising energy costs.
Carell to deliver commencement
Actor Steve Carell will deliver the commencement address at Northwestern University’s annual graduation ceremony Sunday. Carell, known for his roles in “The Office,” and “The Morning Show,” will also receive an honorary Doctor of Arts degree during the ceremony. In a statement, Carell said his address would focus on “The Importance of Lowering Expectations.”
