Chicago school board members resign
As tensions continue between Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Chicago Public Schools, the mayor’s office has confirmed that all seven Board of Education members will be stepping down.
The resignations come three months before a new 21 member hybrid elected and appointed school board gets seated. The board members will leave at the end of the month.
Automatic voter registration error
The Illinois Secretary of State’s Office said it recently discovered that approximately 5,400 Illinois residents who had sought to register to vote at DMVs were never added to the voting rolls because of a 2019 computer coding issue related to REAL IDs.
The coding error was revealed by the agency as part of its ongoing effort to update outdated technology. Officials said they have never received any reports that any of those individuals were prohibited from voting.
Manufacturers group touring state
State officials continue to zig-zag around Illinois on a bus for the 3rd annual “Makers on the Move” tour.
The Illinois Manufacturers’ Association and the Illinois Manufacturing Excellence Center are stopping at various manufacturing facilities, colleges and community centers to highlight how the industry benefits Illinois communities and the economy.
According to IMA, manufacturing is the largest contributor to the state’s Gross Domestic Product and generates almost $600 billion for the state’s economy annually.
