Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed Friday in an Israeli military airstrike, Israel Defense Forces confirmed.

Israeli fighter jets hit the central headquarters of the Hezbollah terrorist organization, which is “embedded under a residential building in the area of Dahieh in Beirut,” with a targeted strike that killed Nasrallah, along with Commander of Hezbollah’s Southern Front Ali Karki and other Hezbollah commanders, IDF announced on Saturday. The strike occurred while the Iran-backed terror group’s senior chain of command was “operating from the headquarters and advancing terrorist activities against the citizens of the State of Israel,” according to IDF.

Hezbollah began firing rockets over the border into Israel in a show of support for Hamas following its Oct. 7 attack that killed nearly 1,200 Israelis. Friday’s strike is the latest— and most devastating — in a series of recent attacks Israel has made on Hezbollah leaders, according to CBS News.

Last week, Israeli forces killed Hezbollah special operations commander Ibrahim Aqil and 15 other terrorists. (RELATED: Top Biden-Harris Official Was Reportedly Furious After Israel Ignored His Advice, Launched Attacks Against Hezbollah)

“During [Hassan Nasrallah’s] 32-year reign as the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, he was responsible for the murder of many Israeli civilians and soldiers, and the planning and execution of thousands of terrorist activities,” the IDF announcement states. “He was responsible for directing and executing terrorist attacks around the world in which civilians of various nationalities were murdered. Nasrallah was the central decision-maker and the strategic leader of the organization.”

Israeli leaders tracked Nasrallah’s location for months prior to Friday’s strike, according to the New York Times. Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, said in a statement Saturday that “all the resistance forces in the region stand with and support Hezbollah,” the outlet reported.
