Jelly Roll explained his political perspective on his wife Bunnie Xo’s “Dumb Blonde” podcast Dec. 16 after facing backlash for meeting Donald Trump the month prior.

The famous country music star met Trump in person at the UFC 309 event at Madison Square Garden in New York on Nov. 16 and the internet had a lot to say about it, especially because Jelly Roll didn’t not openly endorse either candidate in the 2024 presidential race. He set the record straight with a very cut and dry explanation on the podcast.

“I’m not political!” Jelly Roll said, according to People. He went on to say that he would be excited to meet any president, without hesitation, regardless of their political stance.

“Dude, there’s not a chance in hell that I’m not going to meet the president-elect. I don’t care,” Jelly Roll said.

“If I got a call to meet Joe Biden, I would have stopped at any point and [met] him.”

He went on to tell his wife and her listeners that it is about the opportunity to engage with a presidential figure, not their actual political platform that is appealing to him.

“That’s the active president. I don’t care about what he thinks or I think about policies,” Jelly Roll said.

He elaborated on the reason behind his choice.

“People who actually know me know I’m also one of the old-school dudes,” he said.

“I like to talk about things I’m passionate about. With that, I like to know about it. I don’t know enough about politics to act like I know anything that’s going on or what anybody’s standing for policy-wise.”

The famous country singer went on to say that he wasn’t raised in a “voting culture” type of environment as a child and didn’t come from parents that “pushed” him to vote.

“They did push respecting the president though,” he said before commenting that he thinks being the president is “the hardest job in the world.” (RELATED: Kai Trump Reveals ‘Most Embarrassing Moment Ever’ With Her Grandfather Donald Trump)

Reiterating his position, Jelly Roll said, “meeting President Trump was cool. Ultimately, I don’t really care [about] any blowback I get about it.”

“The truth is: It was really cool to meet the president.”
