Journalists are already bedwetting over the fact that no one will like them during President-elect Donald Trump’s second term and that they might actually be held accountable for once.

Liberal journalists and reporters are wont to complain and portray themselves as victims due to their increasing irrelevance in the age of social media. They are also prone to whining about their press freedom whenever the Orange Bad Man criticizes them, which happens quite frequently. The Associated Press (AP) published a story Monday that reveals how some reporters and news executives are already growing anxious ahead of Trump’s second term. Much of that anxiety has to do with Trump’s defamation lawsuit against ABC News and its partisan host, George Stephanopoulos, which ended in a $15 million settlement. Stephanopoulos falsely claimed in March that Trump was found liable for rape in the civil case involving E. Jean Carroll. However, Trump was found liable for sexual abuse. Naturally, the media is trying to spin the defamation suit as a portent of what’s to come in the next Trump administration.

“The news media is heading into this next administration with its eyes open,” Bruce Brown, the executive director of the Reporters Committee for the Freedom of the Press, told the AP. “Some challenges to the free press may be overt, some may be more subtle. We’ll need to be prepared for rapid response as well as long campaigns to protect our rights — and to remember that our most important audiences are the courts and the public.”

The editor-in-chief of ProPublica, which recently botched a story about defense secretary nominee Pete Hegseth, even warned that the media may be heading toward a boy-cried-wolf moment. (RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: Emails, Phone Logs Reveal How Botched Pete Hegseth West Point Story Imploded)

“There may be a moment to cry wolf here,” Stephen Engelberg told The AP. “But I don’t think we’ve reached it.”

Meanwhile, PEN America is fretting over the potential for violence against journalists during the second Trump administration, with its program director for “digital safety” and free expression calling on the president to “act with responsibility.”

“It’s important that the president act with responsibility to reduce physical violence against the press rather than encourage it,” Viktorya Vilk told the outlet.

Instead of bedwetting over fake bogeymen, liberal journalists and corporate media should look closely in the mirror to try to figure out what is wrong with them rather than projecting their insecurity onto an American public that is sick and tired of their misleading narratives and anti-Trump propaganda. The real bogeymen are themselves, and finally, in light of the ABC News defamation suit, they might be held accountable, which is a frightening concept for a group of professionals who very rarely, if at all, face consequences for dishonest reporting.

But something tells me there will be little self-reflection the next four years. The bedwetting will continue, as it always does. After all, it was good for business in the first administration.
