Former Vice President Kamala Harris’s incompetence isn’t going away any time soon. Nor, likely, is the disastrous governance of California Democrats. In fact, California is likely to be on the receiving end of both in a few years.
The most likely outcome for Harris since her presidential loss in November has been a return to politics by way of California’s gubernatorial race. Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) is term-limited, and the options to replace him thus far lack name recognition among California voters, with the only exception being Antonio Villaraigosa, the former Los Angeles mayor and 2018 Democratic runner-up for governor. If Harris jumps in, she will no doubt become the front-runner.
It is almost certain that she will, given that her presidential ambitions apparently remain intact. Both Senate seats in California are filled and would lead to contentious electoral fights if Harris tried to retake one. The governor’s race is going to be open, features no major Democratic players, and is something Harris has reportedly been talking about behind the scenes since May, before former President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 race.
Harris would perpetuate the failures of Newsom, having been a close ally of his, as they are both mainstream California Democrats. Everything from Newsom’s failed economic policies to his disastrous environmental regulations to the obsession with skin color would continue under Harris, likely with the latter option being even further amplified. California would continue to be the worst-run state in the country.
But Harris would be unique in that she brings her own disastrous failures to the table. Harris is known for staff turmoil going back to her time as district attorney of San Francisco. The liberal Washington Post even reported during her time as vice president that Harris “would refuse to wade into briefing materials prepared by staff members, then berate employees when she appeared unprepared.” Harris raised over a billion dollars during her presidential campaign and yet still didn’t have the money to pay senior staffers after her loss.

Then there’s Harris’s political talent or lack thereof. She is a disaster when trying to speak extemporaneously, without a teleprompter, and her track record of reversing her positions to please whatever electorate she is facing makes even Newsom look authentic and trustworthy. Combine that with the knowledge that Harris would only be using California as a stepping stone to make another White House run, and you have the most transparently fake candidate in the country.
Imagine a Newsom administration with more staff turmoil and even less conviction, and you have what a Harris administration would look like in California. Harris would be a disaster, even for Californians who are used to the incompetence of California Democrats, and she would bring the same disastrous management to California as she has to every campaign she has ever run.
