Kansas frontman Ronnie Platt took to social media Feb. 15 and revealed he is battling thyroid cancer.
The 64-year-old rockstar maintained a positive attitude despite the concerning medical update.
“For all of you asking, Tuesday I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer but before everyone gets all excited, it has a 99% survival rate, it has not spread,” Platt wrote on Facebook. He provided more details about his health.
“It’s contained to my thyroid,” he noted.

Platt explained the next steps that he will be taking as he battles the disease.
“I just have to have my thyroid removed,” he said.
“Go through some rehab time and be right back in the saddle.”
He addressed the fans who have been supportive of him and his career with the iconic rock band.
“I sincerely appreciate everyone’s positive thoughts and prayers,” he said.
Platt expressed gratitude and reassured his fans that he is focused on his recovery and his return to music.
“I have some absolutely amazing people going to bat for me!! as it has been put to me, this is just a bump in the road and will be behind me very soon! so everyone please CARRY ON!” he wrote on social media.
The Kansas Band issued a statement on their official Instagram page Wednesday notifying fans of an upcoming cancellation.
“Due to band illness and doctor advisement, the upcoming KANSAS show on Saturday, March 1, 2025, in Lake Charles, LA has been cancelled,” they wrote. “The band apologizes for the inconvenience and hopes to be back on the road soon.”
Fans were assured that their tickets would be refunded where they purchased them. This news followed the rescheduling of two previous shows, which was announced in a post Feb. 13.
