I couldn’t even imagine the level of fear … Wow!
Obviously, nobody wants to come across a Great White Shark while in the ocean, and that’s especially true when you’re in a very small kayak. However, 19-year-old Matt Wells was thrown into this exact scenario recently while he was fishing off the coast of New Zealand — Cape Reinga to be exact. Posted to both his YouTube channel and Instagram account Sunday, the video shows a large Great White Shark coming up to his kayak. When Wells realized the threat he was up against, he quickly cut his live bait and started paddling to shore.
“F*ck me, there’s a huge great white behind me. F*ck me,” said Wells while getting chased. “He’s still behind me. He’s just following me. If I get eaten, it’s not going to be much fun. How do I get him to leave me alone? He’s still right behind me.”

It’s absolutely insane to me how massive this shark is, but not the most surprising thing in the world.
I’ve been to New Zealand before and one of the first warnings I got about the country was the water, namely the fact that it can pull you in easily and it’s LOADED with sharks. And not just sharks, but GREAT WHITE SHARKS. I’m not kidding you. New Zealand’s Department of Conservation even has on record that the nation is a “global hotspot” for Great White Sharks.
And this is exactly why I didn’t take my ass into the water.
