President-elect Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, announced late Saturday that she will be removing her name from the short list for Sen. Marco Rubio‘s (R-FL) Senate seat.
In a statement posted to X, Lara said that “After an incredible amount of thought, contemplation, and encouragement from so many,” she would not seek the seat soon to be vacated after Trump nominated Rubio for secretary of state.
Lara Trump also said that she was “truly humbled by the unbelievable support shown to me by the people of our country, and here in the great state of Florida,” before teasing a “big announcement” to come in January. She added that she remains “incredibly passionate about public service and look forward to serving our country again sometime in the future.”
The announcement comes after her father reportedly spoke with Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) about appointing Lara to the Senate seat and after she resigned as co-chair of the Republican National Committee earlier this month.
