Lara Trump, President-elect Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law and outgoing Republican National Convention (RNC) co-chair, announced Saturday that she will no longer be available as a possible replacement for outgoing Republican Florida Sen. Marco Rubio.

“After an incredible amount of thought, contemplation, and encouragement from so many, I have decided to remove my name from consideration for the United States Senate,” Lara Trump, 42, said.

Her announcement signals a change from her previous intention to consider being in the running to replace Rubio, whom Trump picked to be the Secretary of State. “It is something I would seriously consider,” Lara Trump had told The Associated Press (AP). “If I’m being completely transparent, I don’t know exactly what that would look like. And I certainly want to get all of the information possible if that is something that’s real for me. But yeah, I would 100% consider it.” (RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: Mom For Senate? She had announced her intention to step down from her position as RNC co-chair amid the speculation that she might replace Rubio.

Lara Trump expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve as the RNC co-chair “during the most high-stakes election of our lifetime” and thanked Floridians for their support.

“I do have a big announcement that I’m excited to share in January, so, stay tuned,” she added.

Lara Trump said she would welcome the opportunity to return to public service. “In the meantime, I wish [Republican Florida] Governor [Ron] DeSantis the best of luck with this appointment,” she added.

If the Senate confirms Rubio as Secretary of State, DeSantis will choose Rubio’s successor, who will serve until the midterm elections in 2026, the AP noted. Rubio’s replacement reportedly could emerge in January 2025 as Rubio is likely to be confirmed.

Lara Trump was in a similar position in 2021, when she declared her intention not to run for the Senate seat that Republican North Carolina Sen. Richard Burr would vacate, The Hill reported. She backed Republican North Carolina Rep. Theodore Budd instead, prompting speculation about her possible run to dissipate.

“I am saying no for now, not no forever,” she said at the time, adding that it would be “very hard” to pursue a Congressional career while raising her two young children, now aged seven and five.
