Soak it in, ladies and gentlemen! We’re only getting Lee Corso one more time!
ESPN made the announcement Thursday that iconic college football analyst Lee Corso will be headed into retirement following 38 seasons. His retirement will be made official after the Week 1 edition of “College GameDay” in 2025.
The 89-year-old Corso is widely beloved in both the college football and sports worlds thanks to his legendary personality. (RELATED: North Dakota State Football Visits President Trump At White House After Winning Yet Another National Championship)
“My family and I will be forever indebted for the opportunity to be part of ESPN and ‘College GameDay’ for nearly 40 years,” said Corso in an official statement that ESPN released. “I have a treasure of many friends, fond memories and some unusual experiences to take with me into retirement.”
When ESPN launched “College GameDay” back in 1993, Corso was one of the original hosts alongside Chris Fowler and Craig James.
Throughout the years, Corso worked with numerous hosts and analysts, eventually coming out with his famous “not so fast, my friends” catchphrase and becoming part of college football fans’ households.
This is truly a sad day to be a college football fan, but at the same time, we all knew this was coming. I’ve said this multiple times in blogs before, and I’ll say it again: It sucks that we all have to get old and die.
But one thing I can say about Corso, at least he’s heading into retirement loved. Most people can’t say that, especially with how human life is devalued today by our society.
I don’t mean to get too deep on you, but it’s something that I thought about while writing this blog.
We really need to be better as human beings, but we won’t … with that being said, congratulations on retirement, Corso!
