From winning national championships to serving the people of Ohio … Jim Tressel can do it all.
The legendary head football coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes is now the lieutenant governor of the state.
Tressel was confirmed Wednesday by both the Ohio House and Senate, two days following Gov. Mike DeWine selecting him to become his second-in-charge. Tressel fills the vacant seat of Sen. Jon Husted, who replaced Vice President JD Vance in the Senate in January.
Republicans praised Tressel, who retired in 2023 as the Youngstown State University president after a decade, as a top-notch leader and snazzy dresser while they were at it. (RELATED: Kai Trump Is Becoming Legitimate Golf Superstar Right In Front Of Our Eyes With $1.2 Million NIL Valuation: REPORT)
“How can you not support a man who has made wearing the sweater vest great again?” said Republican State Sen. Al Cutrona.
Tressel even received some support from the left as Democratic State Sen Bill DeMora wore one of the ol’ football coach’s signature sweater vests in celebration.
Jim Tressel is mostly known for his 10 years as the Ohio State football coach, winning the 2002 national championship over my beloved Miami Hurricanes.

I honestly had no idea Jim Tressel was being considered for Ohio lieutenant governor — hell, I didn’t even know he was a Republican. But it’s pretty cool to see.
