Numerous media outlets cooked up a fake Trump hoax recently after the former president said that America “will end up like Detroit” if Kamala Harris wins in November.

During his speech at the Detroit Economic Club, Trump addressed the decline of the auto industry in Michigan, foreign trade deals and how politicians have been ripping off the American worker. High-profile Michigan Democrats, including Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, jumped at the opportunity to attack Trump and take the remark wildly out of context, even though the former president spent much of his speech laying out the real problems that have all but destroyed the city, once one of the wealthiest metropolitan areas in the world. “So keep Detroit out of your mouth. And you better believe Detroiters won’t forget this in November,” Whitmer said.

“Detroit just hosted the largest NFL Draft in history, the Tigers are back in the playoffs, the Lions are headed to the Super Bowl, crime is down and our population is growing. Lots of cities should be like Detroit. And we did it all without Trump’s help,” Duggan said.

Democratic Rep. Shri Thanedar, who represents Detroit, said Trump should “keep Detroit and our people out of your mouth.”

Attorney General Dana Nessel said, “This guy is calling us ugly and then asking us out on a date.”

The media, of course, followed suit, with CNN, The Associated Press, The Guardian, ABC News and MSBNC all regurgitating the same line that Trump “insulted” the Motor City by simply pointing out the truth: Establishment economic policies, from both Republicans and Democrats, have gutted American cities.

The media will gladly take their cues from Democrats such as Whitmer and fuel the outrage machine because they are so anti-Trump. But the reality is that Detroit has been gutted compared to its peak in the 1950s, and Trump’s diagnosis was spot on.

A day after Trump’s speech, Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram brands, laid off 1,100 employees in a suburb of Detroit. Will these same media outlets acknowledge that Trump had a point? No. Trump is mean, the headlines read.
