Mountain Dew dished out millions of dollars for a bizarre Super Bowl ad that included the face of Seal the artist actually on a seal’s body.
The ad dropped Feb. 5 and, sadly for Mountain Dew, it’s too late to take it back. The mistake has already been made and their money has already been wasted. The freakish video clip featured Seal singing a new rendition of his hit song “Kiss from a Rose” and, thanks to AI, his face was actually plastered onto the body of a seal.
The odd plot started with Mountain Dew’s Mountain Dude offering Becky G a drink from a bottle of Mountain Dew Baja Blast. Becky took a sip and entered some sort of weird portal before landing in a boat with Mountain Dude. The camera flicked to Seal — atop the body of a seal — singing his song while perched awkwardly on a rock. Set your standards a tad lower if you plan on watching this ad.
The artist’s face really didn’t need to be put on the marine mammal’s body. If this was meant to be entertaining, it missed the mark entirely. The whole thing was more disturbing than it was interesting. Of all the artists they could have clinched with a Super Bowl advertising budget, Seal seems like a strange choice. He had his heyday in the 90s and was never resurrected. He definitely isn’t making a comeback with this ad.
Seal’s head protruded from the strange animal’s neck and, if seeing that didn’t traumatize viewers enough, things became progressively worse when he started singing.
The lyrics of the song were changed to, “Baby, I compare it to a kiss from a lime, on the bay,” and then Seal called out his own weirdness with the lyrics, “Ooh, the more I think of it, it’s strange I’m a seal, yeah.”
It looked like a grade school kid put this commercial together with a five minute deadline.

“My flippers can’t hold Mountain Dew, it slips right on through, what a shame,” the artist sang as he lost his grip on the bottle in a hopeless fumble.
The horrible song continued until eventually Becky said, “Well, this is the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen.” (RELATED: Shania Twain Stars In Her Most Bizarre Role Yet For New Super Bowl Ad)
The commercial ended with Seal in his human form on the boat with the rest of the gang, and thank goodness the annoying commercial came to an end.
Super Bowl ads are bordering the $8 million dollar mark, according to the USA Today Ad Meter. If this is all that Mountain Dew could come up with, it’s a shame.
