New Stadium For Tampa Bay Rays Officially Dies, Relocation Now Back On Table New Stadium For Tampa Bay Rays Officially Dies, Relocation Now Back On Table

It’d be sad to see my beloved Florida lose a baseball team.

But that might be what happens with the Tampa Bay Rays with their stadium situation being absolutely terrible.

Following over 20 years at Tropicana Field, it appeared that the Rays were finally going to be able to build themselves a new stadium in St. Petersburg. And this wasn’t even that long ago. Each the franchise, the city and the county made the announcement on a project worth $1.3 billion that would fund a stadium and its construction.

However, the Rays announced Thursday that the organization is taking themselves out of the deal, citing not being able to meet their side of things.

Stu Sternberg, the owner of the Rays, issued a statement that confirmed the news. (RELATED: Cubs’ Seiya Suzuki Takes Batting Practice In Incredibly Unique Way — Watch This Guy Hit 40 Homers This Season)

“After careful deliberation, we have concluded we cannot move forward with the new ballpark and development project at this moment,” said Sternberg. “A series of events beginning in October that no one could have anticipated led to this difficult decision.”

“Our commitment to the vitality and success of the Rays organization is unwavering. We continue to focus on finding a ballpark solution that serves the best interest of our region, Major League Baseball and our organization.”

MLB went on to say that it’s “committed” to having the Rays remain in the Tampa area.

“Major League Baseball remains committed to finding a permanent home for the club in the Tampa Bay region for their fans and the local community,” read a statement from MLB. “Commissioner (Rob) Manfred understands the disappointment of the St. Petersburg community from today’s announcement, but he will continue to work with elected officials, community leaders and Rays officials to secure the club’s future in the Tampa Bay region.”

No matter what the MLB says, you can’t deny things are getting shaky … be on the lookout for possible relocation.
