Nick Saban had to keep it a bean.

The conversation around college sports has started to center around the House settlement that’s upcoming and the switch-ups that are on the horizon when it comes to sharing revenue. With that being said, legendary college football head coach Nick Saban thinks we might not need a presidential commission on name, image and likeness (NIL).

Recently, President Donald Trump reportedly let his idea be known for a commission that would be intended to fix the current situation going on in college sports, including student-athletes’ ability to profit from NIL. Concerned about NIL in the past, Saban is one of the individuals who has seen their name brought up for potentially leading the Trump-proposed commission. However, it appears that Saban isn’t a big fan of the president’s idea, letting his feelings known Wednesday while speaking with Paul Finebaum of ESPN.

“First of all, I don’t know a lot about the commission. Secondly, I’m not sure we really need a commission,” said Saban. “I think that a lot of people know exactly what the issues are in college football and exactly what we need to do to fix them. The key to the drill is getting people together so we can move it forward.

“I’m not opposed to players making money, I don’t want anybody to think that. I just think the system that we (are using), the way it’s going right now, is not sustainable, and probably not in the best interest of the student-athletes across the board or the game itself. I think we need to protect the brand, and the competitive advantages and disadvantages that are being created right now, and I think we can fix all that. But I think we know how to do it, and not just me but a lot of people. We just have to get everybody together to do it.”

I’m with Saban, no need to let big government get involved, just let the market work itself out.
