The drama never stops in soccer!
English Premier League soccer club Nottingham Forest has stated that their owner Evangelos Marinakis ran on the pitch in Sunday’s game taking on Leicester City due to “deep frustration” that he experienced when he witnessed his forward Taiwo Awoniyi get injured. They denied that Marinakis confronted NFFC manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
Things popped off after Nottingham’s 2-2 draw against Leicester City, which resulted in them losing ground when it comes to qualifying for the Champions League. Marinakis placed himself on the pitch and appeared to be angry with Espírito Santo.
Espírito Santo stated that the frustrations of Marinakis began with Awoniyi’s injury when he clunked the post near the end of the match. Awoniyi received treatment and appeared to be in clear pain after he went back into action. It was announced Tuesday by Nottingham that Awoniyi had abdominal surgery. A statement was issued by the club Tuesday that explained the actions of their owner.
“His reaction was one of deep care, responsibility, and emotional investment in one of our own. He didn’t just see it as an isolated incident, but as something that reflected the values and unity of the entire team,” said the team.
“In moments like that he demonstrates his leadership, not just through words, but through action and presence. In the final ten minutes of the game, when he saw our player clearly in discomfort, struggling through visible pain, it became increasingly difficult for him to stay on the sidelines.”
