“Obviously, sex sells.”

It’s an age old truism — and we all know what they say about the “oldest profession.” But the industries responsible for selling sex over the past millennium underwent a rapid transformation at the turn of the 21st Century. And the change has certainly not been for the better.

The Daily Caller’s latest documentary, ‘Selling Sex,’ exposes the dark side of the porn industry that the technological revolution ushered in. Pornography might be digital, but it’s shaping an entirely new reality.

“Selling Sex” is available exclusively for Patriots subscribers. Catch a first glimpse below:

Whether it’s a medieval brothel or the Playboy magazine you used to hide under your bed as a teenager, the sex industry had a common thread for hundreds of years. Of course, there was more of a social stigma around unfettered libido before the sexual revolution of the 60s. But even then, you had to venture out publicly to get your “fix.”  It took a concerted effort to seek out explicit materials, an awkward physical encounter with a sales clerk and probably a bit of lying and deceit. So it was hard to avoid at least a modicum of shame.

That all changed with the digital revolution. Pornography today is ubiquitous. A two-second Google search can get you endless hours of acts so depraved that they would make even the bra-burning feminists of the 60s willingly go back to the kitchen — all without a soul knowing.

The ease of anonymous accessibility means we’ve all been desensitized to just how shameful this indulgence ought to feel. It’s no wonder that some studies show the average age of exposure to porn in the U.S. is just 8-years old, according to Dr. Andrew Doan, while little girls are growing up aspiring to make millions on OnlyFans.

This is the sign of a civilization in decline — and it has real world impacts for people on both sides. The Daily Caller’s investigative team spoke with recovering porn addicts, whose formative years were physically and emotionally destroyed by uncontrolled digital pornography. And we sat down with performers on the other side of the camera, who were exploited into degrading acts for money or affirmation until it finally brought them to the brink. Thirty years later, as Generation Porn ought to be married with children, we’re just now coming to understand the damaging effects the modern porn industry has wrought.

Sex will always sell. But like most things, a purely free market is not enough to ensure an optimal outcome — especially when its aided by rapid technological innovations that explode before we even get a chance to understand them.

States are now experimenting with long-overdue restrictions on online porn. It remains to be seen, however, if they will have the intended impact. Yet as the dark underbelly of the digital porn industry increasingly comes to light, it becomes clear that something must be done.

The Daily Caller’s documentary productions are made possible by our faithful Patriots members, and we wouldn’t be able to do it without them. To watch “Selling Sex” and to help support future investigative documentaries, please consider subscribing.
