We’ve got some major developments coming out of Chi-Town!
Needless to say, the Chicago White Sox had a horrific season in 2024 with a historically bad 41-121 record, the most losses of all-time in a single season for a franchise. Well, we may have some falling out from this whole thing, as owner Jerry Reinsdorf is “open to selling” the organization after a long tenure, according to a report Wednesday from The Athletic. The 88-year-old Reinsdorf was the head of a group that bought the Sox in 1981 for $20 million, which isn’t ish now. Owning 19% of the team, he has been Chicago’s principal owner, according to Forbes. Per the outlet, the White Sox are estimated to be worth a whopping $2.05 billion.
Reinsdorf is also the owner of the Chicago Bulls in the NBA, and for a while now, has been strongly opposed to selling either franchise. However, things have changed, and though it’s not clear why that happened, Reinsdorf is currently in “active discussions” with a group that is being led by ex-MLB All-Star Dave Stewart, per The Athletic.
