And the iconic status of Sidney Crosby just got a lot more iconic!
The Pittsburgh Penguins captain and his team squared off Saturday against the Utah Hockey Club, and during so, Crosby knocked in a score to rack up his 600th career goal. The history-making shot came in the second period on a five-on-three power play, placing himself as only the 21st player in NHL history to hit that mark. He’s also just the second active player to join the 600 Club. (RELATED: NFL’s ‘Thursday Night Football’ Game Between Steelers-Browns Turns Into A Straight Up Snow Globe)
Only one goal behind Jari Kurri, Crosby has a chance to put himself in the top 20 in career goals soon. He also has the opportunity to put himself in the top 18 in the near future, with both Dino Ciccarelli (608) and Bobby Hull (610) also close on the list. To put himself into the top 16, he needs 26 more goals to eclipse both Joe Sakic and Jarome Igiola.
The other active player to be in the 600 Club is Washington Capitals left wing Alexander Ovechkin, who is currently at the 868 figure. The all-time leader is Wayne Gretzky at 894, resulting in Ovechkin chasing his own historic feat, the most legendary of them all in terms of scoring.
