We’ve got major news coming out of the golf world!
The PGA Tour made the announcement Tuesday that commissioner Jay Monahan will be departing from his post, but will still remain with the organization for an extended period.
An official statement was released by the Tour that revealed Monahan will stay put in his position until 2026. Come to find out, his exit has been known about for a while now in inner circles, as he talked about him leaving in 2024 to multiple Tour boards. “A year ago, I informed our Boards that upon completing a decade as Commissioner, I would step down from my role at the end of 2026,” said Monahan in the PGA Tour statement. “Since then, we’ve worked together to identify a leader who can build on our momentum and develop a process that ensures a smooth transition.”
The contract of Monahan expires at the conclusion of 2026, so it’s understandable why Monahan and the PGA Tour are riding things out. And on top of that, this will pretty much be a farewell tour for Monahan, which is a pretty cool deal for the commissioner.
The Tour has already found their replacement as well, with Brian Kolapp taking over the duties as the CEO, which will be the first-ever that the Tour has had in their history.
Congrats to Brian on becoming CEO of the PGA TOUR. I’m excited about where the TOUR is headed. And a big thank you to Jay for everything he’s done for our game and for the players and fans. https://t.co/o9bYPPszH3
