I get Plaxico Burress was probably desperate for the money, but he could’ve gotten a much bigger bag.
Plaxico Burress, a former wide receiver for the New York Giants, has landed $280,600 after auctioning off his Super Bowl XLII ring. It was announced by Heritage Auctions that Burress’ ring sold for $280K over the weekend.
The ring of Burress has a ton of historical value considering he was the one who made the game-winning touchdown catch in the G-Men‘s victory against the New England Patriots. New York’s championship win nixed the Pats’ attempt at achieving an undefeated season, which would have seen them accomplish the first 19-0 record in the history of the NFL. $280,600 is the second-highest price tag ever that a Super Bowl ring has sold for, with Baltimore Colts head coach Don McCafferty’s Super Bowl V ring being the most expensive at $300,000. That ring sold back in 2022.
In his NFL career, Burress made around $30 million, but he’s dealt with financial problems in the past, as well as civil lawsuits and failing to pay his taxes.

Considering Don McCafferty’s ring sold for $300,000, and how historical Plaxico Burress’ ring is, I’m thinking he could’ve pulled at least $500,000-$600,000. Settling for $280,600 just shows desperation.
No disrespect to Plaxico though, just keepin’ it a bean.
