Authorities accused a man of swallowing nearly $800,000 worth of Tiffany & Co. after stealing jewelry from an Orlando, Florida store.
Jaythan Lawrence Gilder allegedly impersonated a representative of an Orlando Magic player in order to reach the luxury jewelry, WFLA reported, citing an Orlando Police Department (OPD) arrest report. The 32-year-old allegedly swallowed $769,500 worth of goods, including two 8.19 carat diamond earrings priced at $609,500 and two 4.86 carat diamond earrings totaling $160,000.
He was later accused of stealing a $587,000 ring which was recovered, police said.
Police carried out a body scan at the jail after stopping Gilder in his vehicle on Interstate 10, according to the arrest report. The scan allegedly helped investigators discover the missing earrings in his stomach.
The man “spontaneously asked jail staff” if he would be “charged with what’s in my stomach,” the OPD said. He allegedly added that he “should have thrown them out the window.”
Gilder was taken into custody on a charge of resisting in addition to 48 outstanding warrants from Colorado, according to police. (RELATED: Video Shows Thieves Brazenly Loot Jewelry Store In Daylight Heist)

“These foreign objects are suspected to be the Tiffany & Co earrings taken in the robbery but will need to be collected by WCSO after they are passed through Gilder’s system prior to confirming,” the arrest report said.
Gilder was booked Friday and faces charges of grand theft in the first degree and robbery with a mask, Orange County inmate records show.
Police said they learned the suspect was previously charged with allegedly robbing a Texas Tiffany & Co. location in 2022 through reviewing his criminal history, WFLA reported.
